zMUD BRINGS XML TO INTERNET MUD GAMES
Zugg Software has released version 6.15 of zMUD, a Windows-based software
package that allows you to play Multi-User Dungeon (MUD) games on the Internet.
MUD games are text-based roleplaying and adventure games. The extensive
scripting language in zMUD allows MUD players to create their own commands and
events, assign commands to keyboard macros, automatically map the game, or even
create their own automated avatars. Every feature in zMUD can be customized.
With over 31,000 registered users, zMUD is the most-used MUD client on the
Internet.
zMUD version 6.15 adds support for the new MUD eXtension Protocol (MXP),
based on XML. Like XML, the MXP markup language allows the MUD game to tag data
elements for the client to render as desired by the game player. MXP and XML
bring a richness to the MUD games much like the web has brought to text-based
information. zMUD has also added support for the Mud Client Compression Protocol
(MCCP) and has added Component Object Model (COM) client and server support.
A unique Automapper creates a graphical map of the MUD as you move around and
play. A complete and scriptable database module allows you to keep track of your
game inventory and equipment. Programmers can use the zMUD Developer's Kit
(available separately) to create customized COM-based plugins for zMUD,
extending its commands and features. zMUD implements the MUD Sound Protocol
(MSP), adding music and sound effects to the text-based MUD games. zMUD is VT100
and ANSI compliant, and contains built-in support for telnet or SOCKS proxy
servers. zMUD is available for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000.
zMUD costs $25, with all future versions and upgrades available for free.
zMUD is available for immediate download from Zugg Software at http://www.zuggsoft.com/.
